Following a successful revision workshop for our Year 11 pupils earlier this year, our Year 10 pupils recently took part in their own session led by Abigail Jones, Outreach Manager for the Academic Development Programme within the widening participation team at the University of Lancashire.

With pupils beginning their GCSE studies this half term, the session provided the perfect opportunity for them to build strong study habits that they can continue to develop over the next two years.

Throughout the workshop, pupils were introduced to practical revision strategies they can start using straight away, from organising their time more effectively to selecting techniques that suit their individual learning styles.

Abigail highlighted that effective revision isn’t about doing more, but about working smarter and choosing approaches that genuinely support understanding and memory.

Pupils were encouraged to reflect on how they learn best and explore methods that could help them feel more confident and independent as they move through Key Stage 4.

Staff also welcomed the workshop as a timely opportunity for pupils to begin developing the skills they will rely on throughout their exam preparation.

Miss Helen Cutts, Acting Headteacher, said: “As our Year 10s begin their GCSE journey, sessions like this are incredibly important. They help pupils understand how they learn, build confidence and develop the study habits that will support them over the next two years. It’s fantastic to see them engaging so positively and starting to take ownership of their revision.”

A huge thank you to Abigail and the University of Lancashire Outreach Team for delivering such an engaging and supportive session for our Year 10 pupils. We look forward to continuing this work as pupils build their revision confidence over the year.
