Following on from the news we shared in November about investing in our staff members’ CPD, we are delighted to announce that two teachers have recently completed, and passed, their national professional qualifications (NPQ).
NPQs are accredited qualifications for teachers in England that have been designed to develop expertise in specialist areas of teaching and leadership.
Our school’s Literacy Lead and Humanities Teacher, Mr Koole, passed his NPQ for leading literacy (NPQLL) at the end of last month with Ambition Institute. Taking an entire year to complete, with some intense periods of study throughout the 12 months, Mr Koole learned a range of valuable information about the science of reading that will support him in fulfilling his role as Literacy Lead here at The Acorns School.
Importantly, by Mr Koole achieving his NPQLL, our pupils will continue to develop high-quality literacy skills, with teaching approaches further strengthened by the latest evidence and best practice.
Mr Finnegan, PE Teacher and Duke of Edinburgh Lead, has also achieved an NPQ for leading behaviour and culture (NPQLBC), which he spent 18 months working towards. Completing modules throughout the duration of the course, Mr Finnegan had to submit a final assignment which determined whether he passed or failed.
On Wednesday, 28 January Mr Finnegan received the news that he had passed his NPQLBC and was overjoyed. Now, he is focusing on ensuring our pupils continue to benefit from a positive, consistent and calm learning environment to support their academic and pastoral achievements.
Head Teacher, Mrs Joanne Hodson, said: “I’d like to congratulate Mr Koole and Mr Finnegan on their recent achievements. Completing an NPQ in any area takes a lot of dedication and commitment and their accomplishments are testament to the passion they both show to making a positive impact on our pupils’ learning and experiences.”
